The 39th Porto Internacional Film Festival, commonly known as Fantasporto, starts on 19 February 2019 until 3 March, in the city of Porto. A city twice elected Best European Destination, that joins the Douro River and Atlantic Ocean in an embrace. Therefore, this is an obligatory annual meeting point for all cinephile.
Fantasporto will exhibit hundreds of short films and feature films from 60 countries.
This festival is considered one of the 10 best independent film festivals in the world by Tripper and one of the 3 biggest and most important Fantasy festivals in the World.
Theme for the 39th Festival
Under the theme THE CHALLENGES OF MODERNITY, all genres, all colors, people from all over the world will be at the Rivoli Theater. In addition, festival exhibits Classics like Easy Rider, The Shining, The Clockwork Orange and Alien, on their birthdays, in all their glory, as they were created for big screen.
Porto Internacional Film Festival – Film Competition
Ten days of the World of Fantasy Cinema. Producers, directors, actors, actresses, distributors and public will merge into a multifaceted program. A program split in 10 sections, 4 competitive and with international juries, that feed on the latest world productions. The directors Milan Todorovi and Juan Pinzás are some of the names in the Jury.
Around 50 countries per year present, with a total of 200 to 250 short and feature films, all of them unpublished in Portugal. Furthermore, conferences, debates, Q&A’s, a congress dedicated to the cinema in schools. Finally, the festival includes presentations of books and plastic arts exhibitions.
Great names of Cinema have passed through Porto. There are about 200 guests a year, and to name a few, we can talk about Max von Sydow, Guillermo del Toro, Wim Wenders, John Hurt, Rosana Arquette, Danny Boyle, Ben Kingsley and Paul Schrader.
Porto Internacional Film Festival is always up-to-date with productions in World Premiere. The event will bring to the Porto dozens of foreign journalists and distributors who will see first-hand the films that are still going to enter the commercial circuit.
Additionally, in parallel, there is also a Film Minimarket, the Industry Screenings that are a means of linking to the Cinema Industry.
