One Object and its Speeches per Week
“One Object and its Speeches per Week”
A cycle of stories that present the assembly of the puzzle that fits the municipal heritage, great institutions of the city and the most varied objects that are usually away from public access.
Porto city Mayor explains that the challenge given to the city was of revealing itself through weekly conversations around its material and nonmaterial heritage.
With more than 100 guests each year, and a weekly cycle, the “Object and its Speeches per Week” project is part of the cultural routine of the city of Porto.
In this way the city presents its museums, libraries and beaches, but also its associations, restaurants and boats, cemeteries, laboratories or gardens and hospitals.
Museological objects, ideas, values and tastes go on debate; specialists from different quadrants of society and areas of expertise – from engineering to arts, through fishing, health, or religion – will interact.
“One Object and its Speeches per Week” is knowledge, inclusion, and circulation. Its an experience of Porto. Of a whole city that projects itself into the future through the love that nourishes for its history and heritage.

17 November – “São Martinho of Cedofeita Church”
The Church of São Martinho de Cedofeita is considered the oldest church in Porto.
According to legend, the temple was built so quickly that it was referred to as “Cito Facta”, which then derived in the name of city district Cedofeita (done early). Although the documentary sources are insufficient to prove it, it will also be of this period the invocation to São Martinho (Saint Martin), to whom the king Suevo Teodomiro have dedicated the church, after the cure of his son in presence of the relics of the saint.
In the week that revives the traditions of S. Martinho, the specialist in archeology and medieval art Manuel Real and the art historian Sara Rocha will be the guides in this true journey in time, in a session moderated by António da Ponte, Regional Director of Culture From North.
