Mares Vivas Music Festival 2019
MEO Mares Vivas is one of the biggest music festivals in the North of Portugal and its back! It takes place in Antiga Seca do Bacalhau (Old Codfish Drying Field) in Vila Nova de Gaia (Canidelo) from 19 to 21st of July.
Three days of great music and a fantastic view of the Atlantic Ocean, the Douro River and the beautiful city of Porto in the background.
July 19 – Day 1
Keane
Six years after the “break-up” concert in Berlin, the british Keane will reunite at the Mares Vivas Music Festival.
Besides the expected hits from “Hopes and Fears”, one of 40 best-selling albums of all time in the UK, the British brand bring songs from the upcoming new album “Cause and Effect”, that will be out in September.
Kodaline
Kodaline will replace Snow Patrol, that canceled their shows due to health reasons. The Irisish indie rock band has 4 members: Steve Garrigan, Mark Prendergast, Vincent May and Jason Boland.
The group have released three studio albums. “In a Perfect World” (2013), “Coming Up for Air” (2015), and the most recent “Politics of Living”, in 2018.
Kodaline were nominated for MTV and BBC prizes in 2012. In 2014, the band won “Public Choice Award” by the European Border Breakers Award, an official EU award.
Mishlawi
Mishlawi and Os Quatro e Meia are the Portuguese representatives on the first day of Meo Mares Vivas music festival.
Tarik Mishlawi is a Portuguese-American 22 years old hip-hop performing artist which started his career on YouTube. The single “All Night” was launched in 2016 and has already surpassed the 12 million views.
Influenced mainly by rap, RnB and trap-soul, the artist published “Always on My Mind”, “Boohoo”, ft Richie Campbell and “Limbo”. Last year “FMR” and “Rain” with Richie Campbell and Plutonium, all members of Bridgetown.
July 20 – Day 2
On Saturday, the 2nd day of the festival, the highlights are the Swedish indie rock band Manso Diao and Don Broco from Bedforf.
Manso Diao
Since 2002, Manso Diao have released seven studio albums and sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide. Band members are Björn Dixgård (vocals, guitar), Carl-Johan Fogelklou (bass), Jens Siverstedt (guitar), Daniel Haglund (keyboard) and Patrik Heinkipieti (drums).
In addition, throughout their career they have given more than 1500 concerts in more than 30 countries and have been heads of posters in great festivals spread all over the world. They claim the Beatles as their original source of inspiration.
Greatest hits include: “Dance with Somebody”, “Love Last Forever”, the official song for the ski world championship 2015 in Falun, “Shake”, and for songs from the “Infruset”.
Don Broco
Don Broco is an alternative rock band formed in 2008 in Bedfordshire. The quartet consists of vocalist Rob Damiani, guitarist Simon Delaney, bassist Tom Doyle and drummer Matt Donnely.
They have played in several UK festivals, including the Boardmasters, Underage, Camden Crawl, Sonisphere, Slam Dunk and Reading.
The band’s debut album Priorities was released on 2012, followed up by Automatic on 2015. Their latest album, Technology, was released on February 2018.
Ornatos Violeta and Carlão, are the Portuguese representatives on this second day of festival.
July 21 – Day 3
Sting
Mares Vivas 2019 brings to Porto one of the most awarded music artists in the world, Sting. The British composer, singer, actor, author and activist will present “Sting: My Songs”.
Promises to be a lively and dynamic show focused on Sting’s most beloved songs spanning the 16 times Grammy-winning career with The Police and as a solo artist.
“Englishman In New York”, “Fields Of Gold”, “Shape Of My Heart”, “Every Breath You Take,” “Roxanne,” “Message In A Bottle”. These are some of the songs fans will be able to hear and many more, with Sting accompanied by a set of electric rock.
Morcheeba
The Trip hop and electronic styles will be at Meo Mares Vivas by Morcheeba. Skye is one of the most recognizable voices on the planet that accompanied by Ross’s psychedelic guitar is a truly unforgettable and fascinating experience.
Additionally, on the last day of the festival, there will soul e funk music in Portuguese by HMB with their famous “Feeling”, “Talvez”, “Naptel Xulima” and also “O Amor é assim”, the theme born from the partnership with the Fado singer Carminho.

How to get there?
By Bus:
If you want to travel by bus, you should take lines 11 and 12 (Porto – Lavadores) and 13 (St. Ovidium – Lavadores) from Espirito Santo and exit at the “Estamparia Lavadores” stop. These lines will be reinforced during the duration of the festival (more information at www.espiritosanto.com.pt).
By Metro:
The exit station should always be General Towers (line D towards D. João II), and you can take the bus that will connect there (more information at www.metrodoporto.pt).
By CAR:
From the highway A1 take the “Gaia Afurada” exit and follow the signs to the festival. Free parks will be available in the surrounding area of the MEO Marés Vivas enclosure.
