Aqua Porto 2018
The city of Porto will host, for the fifth consecutive year, AquaPorto 2018, the largest water and science event held nationwide, which will run from September 28 to 30.
Climate change, as the biggest environmental problem of the 21st century, was the theme chosen for the fifth edition of the initiative, adopting the slogan “For the Planet, Hands on Water”.
It presents a diversified program composed of more than 80 scientific, pedagogical and playful experiences and promises to bring to the City Park, in the area surrounding the Water Pavilion, more than 25 thousand people, according to the municipality’s website.
They invite children and adults to participate actively, in conjunction with researchers and specialists in education and environmental awareness. The main objective is to disseminate science in a practical and fun way associated with the theme of water, putting in interaction the public and the scientists, in order to demystify and value their role and the work they develop.
Given this year’s theme, activities focus not only on protecting water resources, but also on preserving biodiversity, promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy. In addition, the focus is also on promoting sustainable mobility, revitalizing the circular economy, reusing and recycling waste, adopting sustainable lifestyles and low-carbon behavior.
With free admission and other free experiences, AquaPorto is organized by the Câmara do Porto (Porto City Hall), through Águas do Porto, in partnership with PortoLazer and with universities. In addition, the initiative is done in partnership with R&D centers, government entities, municipalities, water management entities, environmental education centers, foundations and associations, science and leisure companies, among others.
